Chief Digital Innovation Officer
Morag Watson is the Vice President of Digital Innovation at BP. In this role, Morag leads a team focused on identifying the application of emerging digital technology innovation to meet business requirements. She works closely with the BP business segments and functions to accelerate the efficient adoption of new technologies and deployment at scale. Morag’s expertise has been instrumental in the Technology Innovation system at BP from ideation to development, application and standardization. Most recently, Morag served as the Director of Global IT Operations and Infrastructure for the America’s region. She also held a senior business unit leadership role in BP's Alternative Energy business responsible for exploring and developing a new part of the renewable energy portfolio, focusing on low carbon power opportunities. Prior to this, Morag was the CIO and Vice President of the Exploration and Production business of BP where her responsibilities included being accountable for all aspects of digital technology and infrastructure supporting the Upstream activities worldwide. Over Morag’s twenty five-year tenure at BP, she has held other leadership positions including a wide range of roles in strategy, planning, and architecture in addition to the development of leading edge technologies. Outside of the technical arena, she was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer and later Vice President, for the North America Commercial Fuels Marketing business. Morag's diverse skills and experiences have taken her to roles based in many different countries, including the US and UK, as well as Venezuela and Colombia. Morag’s career has seen numerous accolades, including the BP Upstream Technical Achievement Award in 1999 and 2000, BP IT Helios Award in 2001, and the BP Performance Innovation Award in 2003. In addition, she was externally recognized by winning the Association for Women in Computing (AWC) award for Top Women in Technology.Morag currently serves on the board of Intel Capital, Price Waterhouse Coopers Exchange and BPs Diversity & Inclusion Council. She is also the Executive Sponsor of BP Women International Americas Business Resource Group which is focused on creating a greater pipeline of talent and opportunities for women in technical industries through the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program. Morag holds an MSc in Management from Stanford University where she was sponsored by BP under the Sloan Program, a BSc in Mathematics and Computing from Aberdeen University and an LTCL from the Trinity College of Music in London.
